LOCK LACES Elastic Shoelace and Fastening System

I recently replaced the regular tie laces on my golf shoes with elastic Lock Laces. Designed for use by runners, these elastic cords are actually great for walkers, golfers, and every day use.

The principal advantage of Lock Laces is that they hold the foot securely, without the hazard of uneven pressure posed by regular laces. They simply are much more comfortable across the top of the foot.

Of course, Lock Laces never need tying—or even adjustment. They stay out of the way and don’t drag in the wet grass. Thing One, my eldest son who rides his bike to college every day uses lock laces because there’s no danger of getting the laces stuck in the chain or gears. Thing Two, who for some reason has always had difficulty keeping his shoes tied, uses them for the convenience.

Lock Laces come in a variety of colors, including the standard black and brown, white and grey. Lock Laces also various fun colors, such as orange, pink, royal blue, tengerine and the “sulphur spring and black” combo seen above. The one issue I have with the colors is that the black and white (and brown) are not mono colors. The black has tiny white specks; the white, tiny black specks. That’s not a problem with athletic shoes, but on my more dressy looking golf shoes, I’d prefer a solid black and brown.

Installation is a breeze. Just replace your regular laces with the elastic cords, slip the ends of the cords through the lock, and trim to fit. Then, snap on the end cap. A word of warning: leave the laces a little longer than you think may be necessary. I’ve found that there’s an adjustment period with the laces that tends to shorten them up a bit. After wearing them a while, if you find your initial cut was too long, you can pop off the end cap and trim again.
