Kodak Challenge Offers A Look At The Tour’s Best Holes

Kodak and the PGA Tour have been offering fans an interesting meta game this year during PGA Tour events. In what they call the Kodak Challenge, they’ve picked thirty holes from across the various tour events, each selected for its beauty and connection to golf history. At season’s end, the player with the lowest eighteen hole score from across the thirty challenge holes wins a cool million dollars.

Right now, there are seven players tied for first in this meta tournament. Ryuji Imada, D.J. Trahan, Steve Lowery, and J.B. Holmes all are at -5 with seven holes played; Will MacKenzie, Chris DiMarco and Kevin Sutherland are at -5 with six holes played.

It’s an interesting concept. It’s just too bad the fans couldn’t be more involved in the whole thing. As neat an idea as The Kodak Challenge is, I just can’t see the general public caring about the outcome.

A nice idea would have been for Kodak to allow fans to pick a fantasy golf team of players, with the “owner” of the best team winning some prizes. That would keep up interest among the cognoscenti.

  1. The Golf Blogger’s comments are spot on.  As the contest stands now, I suspect there is little interest among even the most ardent golf fans. As a participant in the GAM/MGL Fantasy Golf contest, I know my interest in that week’s tournament is significantly increased when my guys are in the hunt.

  2. Great blog and I couldn’t agree more – and great news – we are launching a Fantasy Game for the second half of the season… should be announcing more soon.

  3. Just to clarify on my comment, I work on the Kodak Challenge team and the Kodak Challenge Fantasy Game will be launching in May.  Also can follow twitters at @kodakchallenge or on fan us on facebook.

There’s also a quick contest happening today through 9am Thursday (4/2) on http://www.chron.com/golf for the Shell Houston to guess the # of balls that will go in the water on the Kodak Challenge hole #18 and win a Kodak Zi6 Pocket Digital Video Camera.

We’re also doing onsite stuff for fans, just had a Photo Zone at Arnold Palmer Invitational.
