I will be attending my 20th Michigan Golf Show this March (March 4-6) http://michigangolfshow.com/ . Apparently the Rock Financial Showplace has a new sponsoring entity and is called The Suburban Collection Showplace.
The idea of a Michigan golf show actually started a couple years prior to this particular version. The original one was in the Novi Hilton’s ballroom and it was like being in a can of sardines. After a couple years there were two competing shows (one in the old Novi event center and the “original” at the Southfield Civic Center). The golf world in Michigan is large but it did not support two shows and so the “original” eventually bit the dust.
In a sense, the Golf Show kicks off the season for me. I rarely purchase much but it is fun to be surrounded by a sea of avid golfers and piles of equipment. I usually score a couple free or reduced fee rounds of golf, buy a 3-pack of golf gloves and just immerse myself in the atmosphere.
After the golf show the weather typically starts to turn a bit warmer and the snow disappears. One year I actually played 18 holes at Kensington and then visited the golf show. Maybe this year will be the year I do it again!
