This comes from the group that started Golfbookie, the “Classic” group, which has been playing together for 20 years at Brookside in Pasadena.
It was a typical Tuesday morning outing, and we had many bets going. Skins, team match, individual medal, and three individual matches each, all within a single foursome. We had reached the 17th green, a fairly easy par three, and tensions were high.
Gumby, a fifty-ish actor, and a real character, never mind the acting, was lining up a ten-foot birdie putt that was easily worth seventy-five bucks or more. Hunched over the ball in total concentration, he lets a tremendous fart. Without moving, he hovers another moment or two over the ball, takes the putter back, and rolls the ball halfway to the hole.
