I had an opportunity to go through Munich Airport on my way back from a week in Italy. First one goes through passport control. Then you go through airport security. Every passenger is patted down THOROUGHLY after going through the metal detector. Once you enter the boarding area you are not allowed outside the “sterile” security area. I bought a bottle of water after going through both passport control, the metal detector and pat-down. In order to purchase a bottle of water inside the boarding area I was required to produce my boarding pass and passport. Then I had to sign the receipt and write down my address and country of origin. An interesting world we live in.
