I don’t watch a lot of golf on TV.  The majors, if I am around the house and not playing myself or occasionally one of the bigger tournaments.  Mother’s Day found me sitting at home late in the afternoon and I started watching the Players Championship.  It looked like a two horse race between Allenby and Westwood until Tim Clark started to move up the leaderboard.  I don’t know much about Tim Clark but he has about the same build as I (5’ 7”, 160 lbs).  His relative lack of distance matches up with my game compared to my contemporaries.  It was fun watching a professional with a game more similar to mine than, say, Phil or Tiger.

One of the things I like about watching the occasional LPGA tournament is their more normal club selection and relative lack of distance.  No 230 yard 6-irons for the ladies (with the exception of Laura Davies or Michelle Wie).  Even I would have a chance to break the top 50 in driving distance on the LPGA.

So any way, after last weekend I have decided to make Tim Clark my new “guy” to root for when I watch golf.  Boy, I hope Tim doesn’t have a secret life he is hiding from everyone.

Agreed on Clark, and liking players whose game more nearly mirrors mine ... I’d also add Corey Pavin, Brad Faxton, Justin Leonard and Paul Goydos to the list.

It was nice to see Tim Clark make it inside the top 15 at the US Open.  If his 2010 Players win does not get him into the Open next year, the top 15 finish did.  He seems to have the game to compete at a US Open.
