In the Atlanta area, the largest course ownership group is Cannongate. They run non-equity clubs all around the city. Membership in one of their 25 clubs allows access to the other 24 (typically with a reduced fee). They typically purchase daily fee courses and turn them private after a time.
A woman at the Northville Hills booth at the Michigan Golf Show mentioned that they are now managed by Cannongate. I wonder if the distress of the golf industry in the Detroit metro area has presented an opportunity for this outfit. Time will tell.
They have also started an expansion into Texas (Houston area).
