Recently Golf Digest tabbed Leslie Park in Ann Arbor as the best municipal golf course in Michigan. I like Leslie and find the routing, which features some very interesting terrain, to be outstanding. I am not sure that it rates the “best” tag but it is a fine course. In general these lists are almost entirely subjective and must be taken with a grain of salt. There are several muni’s locally that are Leslie Park’s equal.
The list comprised all 50 states and it was interesting to see what other state’s top municipal courses were. For example, California’s was Torrey Pines (South). New York had Beth Page (Black).
I am not sure what the definition of “municipal” was for the listing. I believe Beth Page is State or County owned so the list must encompass all government-operated courses.
The peak non-resident 18-hole walking rates for Dobson Ranch (AZ) and Eagle Ridge (MS) were the lowest at $16. Torrey Pines ($218), The Golf Courses at Incline Village, NV ($175), and Beth Page ($120) topped the list.
