I made my shot of the year, perhaps of the decade yesterday.  Not for the good results, but for the result.

The hole: Par 3, 175yd from my tees (white) - in summer this will be a 185-195 yard par 3, but they are nice and move it up for the winter.  Along the left side of the hole, it is a straight line of mature trees which is a barrier to a well traveled 2-lane road.  The green is sloped significantly from back to front, with a 12’ high hill on the rear-right side.  A ball landing in the primary rough on this hill will roll off the hill and often all the way onto the front of the green.  Putting across the green 7-10 yards, you may have to aim for a spot 3 yards or more above the hole.  It is sick.  There are 3 bunkers - front left, front center and front right.  Rarely will someone find the path to land in front of the green and roll onto it.  Anyhow enough description.

For me, this is usually 3w, 5w (when I had one), 2H, or 3H.  Yesterday, I chose 3H.  Good strike, and it started to fade from the hole, landed in the right bunker, center of bunker- 10 feet to edge of bunker, another 12 feet to hole from there.  Actually pretty easy.  I grabbed my new 60 degree, as I wanted as little roll as possible.  Well I set myself, felt really good, and used a good swing. I completely missed the sand, and hit the ball flush.  The ball flew really well, probably about 50-60 feet at the apex, over the trees 30 yards away, and then straight down into the road.  It landed in the back of a gondola truck passing at 45 mph.  I was almost as happy as if I had holed the ball from the bunker.

So I looked down, and if you looked at it, you wouldn’t have known there was a ball and then a club that had been there.  I placed another ball there, and proceeded to make the second greatest shot of the day, ball popped out, this time with the appropriate amount of sand as well, landed a couple feet on the green and rolled to about a foot from the hole.

Not exactly a great shot, but very unique, one I could not duplicate, especially from a bunker probably ever.

I can’t top that truck shot. That’s like something out of the movies.
