TEE OFF AT NORTH FORK ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL’S 7TH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2006

MATTITUCK, NY (July 25, 2006) — North Fork Environmental Council, Inc. (NFEC) announced today that it would host its seventh annual golf outing at Island’s End Golf and Country Club, Rt. 25, Greenport, New York, on Wednesday, September 27, 2006.  Bring your clubs and tee off for a good cause!

The event, which is known as The Richard Noncarrow Memorial Golf Classic, celebrates the life and honors the memory of Richard Noncarrow, a past Board member and Treasurer of the Council, who died two years ago. A dedicated environmentalist and avid golfer, Dick was also a civic leader who worked tirelessly for many organizations on the North Fork of Long Island, including the Chambers of Commerce.

North Fork Bank and Suffolk County National Bank are lead sponsors for 2006. The Classic, a popular annual event on the North Fork, also welcomes support from other local businesses. Golfers from all over the region play in the event which is held at a different course each year.

The 2006 Classic will feature a 1:00 p.m. Shotgun start.  Check-In is at 11:00 a.m., followed by a barbeque lunch.  Golfers who wish to warm up in advance of the starting time are offered unlimited use of the Club’s driving range, and the Club’s facilities will be open to participants. The cost of the event is $150.00 per person, a portion of which is tax deductible.

Island’s End Golf & Country Club is a semi-private course located in the heart of Wine Country on the North Fork of Long Island. The 6,700 yard layout runs from the Main Road, North to where the signature par 3, 16th hole graces the shores of Long Island Sound. From this vista you can see the shores of Connecticut, or up and down the coast of Long Island. The hole itself is a challenging 185 yards. At times players battle stiff winds coming off the water to a rolling right to left green.

The Four Star rated course is uniquely constructed with small moguls, bunkers, trees, and doglegs to make it challenging for any player. The greens are among the finest on Long Island. The course features a driving range, four tee boxes on each hole, showers, a lounge, and restaurant, with catering by Baldy Grimaldi at Island’s End. The Club will score the 18 hole outing and prizes will be awarded to those golfers who shoot Nearest to the Pin, the Most Accurate Drive and the Longest Drive. A Most Honest Golfer prize will also be awarded.

A cocktail hour which will feature a one hour open bar and hot and cold hors d’ oeuvres, precedes a buffet dinner.  A 50/50 Raffle will be held.

The NFEC is a grassroots organization dedicated to the preservation of land, sea, air and quality of life on Long Island’s North Fork. Incorporated in 1972, NFEC has a successful track record of over 33 years in raising public awareness of key environmental issues, increasing public participation in important town meetings and write-in campaigns, and continuing the fight to protect the environment in Riverhead and Southold towns.
