I’ve been playing team golf (Brookside, Pasadena,CA Thursday team) for a few years. I have mixed feelings about it. Some of the players take it waaaay too seriously. While that adds an exciting edge to the matches, it also produces a lot of bad behavior…..thrown clubs, putt-giving disputes, head games, overuse of arcane rules in order to gain an edge, etc. Most of the guys we play are great, but, as in real life, there is what I call the “a**hole factor”....2% of the population are a**holes. In team play, I think the percentage is more like 20%. Anyone else had this experience?[/img]

Yes, unfortunately there are always a few (1 of 20 maybe) that can’t seem to capture the proper balance of fun and competition.  In fact, I may have been viewed by some in our league as being the problem.  My issue was I wanted everyone to play by the same set of rules, preferably USGA, but if not that, then something that was standard.  I was tired of guys blasting a ball deep into the woods on a par-4, dropping on the edge of the fairway, hitting the green and telling me their score was “par” when they 1-putted.  It never came to a shouting match or worse but I know some could detect my simmering outrage.
