Garcia Has High Hopes For Masters’
In an article in the Telegraph, Sergio Garcia talks about his rebuilt swing, his new attitude, and hsi new driver. With a little luck, he says, he could end up with a green jacket.
The Golf Blogger has already picked him as one of the players for the Masters on my fantasy team.
Player Withdraw From Bell South; Mickelson Stays
I was right. A 36 hole finish on the Monday before the Masters was too much for some players to contemplate, and they’ve started to pull out of the Bell South.
Mickelson #2—In Endorsements
Tiger Woods topped the 2004 Forbes List of the World’s Richest Athletes, making nearly $77 million a year—with $70 million of that coming from endorsements.
In the golf world, Phil Mickelson comes in a distant second, taking in about $20 million yearly from Ford, Rolex, Bearing Point and Callaway. BusinessWeek writes that his image as a wholesome family man (he travels with strollers and kiddie car seats) makes him a marketer’s dream. Just for the record, here’s the 2004 Forbes List of the World’s Richest Athletes.
1. Tiger Woods
2. Michael Schumacher
3. Peyton Manning
4. Michael Jordan
5. Shaquille O’Neal
6. Kevin Garnett
7. Andre Agassi
8. David Beckham
9. Alex Rodriguez
10. Kobe Bryant
I was surprised to see Michael Schumacher on the list, but I’m told by my father-in-law (an autoracing fanatic) that he’s practically a god in Europe.
Tway’s 12 Also Affects Verplank
It turns out that Bob Tway’s 12 on the 17th wasn’t a private affair. Houston Chronicle writer Steve Campbell reports that Scott Verplank was so affected by his friend’s anguish that he made a mistake and drove the ball into the water on the 18th, potentially costing him a victory over Fred Funk.

The Masters List is set.
I looked carefully. I’m not on it.
