COBRA S3 Max 4-PW, GW Iron Set with Steel Shafts

A mixed iron-hybrid set the Cobra S3 Max has low-profile, wide-sole irons and large-profile, Baffler-style hybrids. Designed for the mid to high handicapper with a need for forgiveness and high launch, the set is designed to provide consistent distances between clubs. The hybrids deliver maximum forgiveness with a low profile design that shifts the center of gravity low and back for improved launch and a railed, powerback sole improves turf interaction for more consistency and power at contact.

ADAMS Idea Tech V3 Forged Iron Set 4-6 Hybrid with Graphite Shafts, 7H, 8-GW with Steel Shafts

Forged irons aren’t just for single digit handicappers. With the Idea Tech V3 Forged, Adams offers a forged super-game-improvement club. The Tech V3 Forged Set consists of 4-, 5- and 6- progressively-sized hybrids, a 7-mid-hybrid and four oversized cavity back forged irons (8-GW). Thelong hybrids feature strategically placed tungsten weighting in the premium stainless steel head for enhanced forgiveness and spin while a four-way chambered sole and recessed heel and toe areas reduce turf drag for superior playability and versatility. The transitional hybrid mid-iron includes a viscoelastic vibration dampening system for exceptional feel. A precisely located heel and toe weighting in the oversized forged heads of the short irons maximize scoring potential.

Plus, they look sinister with that black finish.

Dynacraft Prophet Tour Forged

image

Dynacraft Prophet Tour Forged

Today the UPS guy brought me a set of Dynacraft Prophet Tour Forged irons from Hireko Golf. These are an extraordinarily beautiful, well balanced set of tools. Forged from soft carbon steel, they have the look of a player’s iron—with small heads, thin top lines and minimal offset—but include some game improvement features. Hireko used CNC milling to carve a cavity and undercut slot in the back of the club. They also shortened the hosel and repositioned the weight to compensate for the heel bias of many forged irons.

It hit a high here in Michigan of 28 degrees today, so it’ll be a while before I can take these beauties to the course. But I can hardly wait.

In The Mail: Acer XF Irons

image

Just received in the mail for review: a set of Acer XF Irons from Hireko.Com

The 2009 Edition of the Acer XF Irons were Golf Digest’s Best Value Iron, but groove rules from the USGA forced Hireko to change the set (including, as it turns out, requiring new Medallions for easier identification). So rather than just make groove and cosmetic changes,  Hireko set off to improve the clubs.

Unfortunately, with temperatures in the low 20s and the evil white stuff on the ground, I can’t do a full review, so I’ll just give a few impressions:

They’re a handsome looking set, with nicely chiseled lines and an appealing look at address. For a game improvement iron, they’re positively sleek. I like the medallion design on the back. They’re also balanced nicely, and felt good in my garage swings.

As with everything I’ve seen from Hireko, the build quality is top rate. The ferules are done well (a sign of care in clubmaking, because its easy to skip the turning phase) and the grips properly aligned (another sign of build quality).

I’ll do a full review as soon as weather permits.

The official literature on the set is below:
