Be The Ball On Course Game

iconicon

There’s a foursome at my club—all retired gentlemen—who have played together twice a week for the last twenty years.

It’s got to be getting boring.

They should spice up their game with the Be The Ball On Course Gameicon. It’s a set of plastic cards labeled with various golf events, such as birdies, long balls, etc. before the round begins, the players agree to a dollar value for each of the cards. Then, as the events occur during the round, the cards are distributed. At the end, everyone pays up according to the agreed upon values of the cards.

I’ve played a similar game, keeping track of the side bets with pencil and paper. But the cards would make it very easy.

The Great White North and Undiagnosed Golf Hysteria

Petosky is a beautiful city in the upper lower peninsula of Michigan, which was the summer home of Ernest Hemingway for his first 18 years. You can’t beat the summers there; I have spent many happy weeks at my inlaws cottage on nearby Mullett Lake.

Unfortunately, as nice as the summers are, the winters are long and cold. And this one has been worse than usual.

So there’s this very funny column in the Petosky News about Undiagnosed Golf Hysteria—a syndrome you get when you have suffered through a too-long winter and are waiting anxiously for signs of spring.

I say the heck with spring. As soon as the snow is gone from the ground, I’m playing—no matter what the temperature.

Basic Golf Shirt Review

Basic Golf Shirt Grade: A Teacher’s Comments: It would get an A plus, but it’s too “hip” for this 40-something guy. (Is “hip” even a term anymore?) The Basic Golf Shirt isn’t. Basic, that is. Rather, it’s a high quality, reasonably priced—and dare I say…
