R7 425 Recall Rumors Apparently Not True

I’ve been getting a lot of inbound traffic over the last few days using search terms like: R7 425 Tip Problem ; R7 425 Shaft Problem ; and R7 425 Recall.
There apparently is a rumor floating around out there of a problem with TaylorMade’s latest driver. I tried Googling to find the source of the rumor, but was unsuccessful.
So I contacted a source at TaylorMade for information. The unofficial official story is that there was an “assembly problem” with a few clubs in the first batch of drivers (not the shaft problem of the runors) and that none of the problem drivers made it to the consumer. Those that made it to retailers were returned.
So, none of the clubs that were sold, or that currently are at retailers were affected.
Since I think of a recall as a company having to call back products that have been sold to consumers, I’d say that the recall rumors just aren’t true. But if TaylorMade ever releases an official official statement, I’ll pass it on.

Titleist 905T Pro Titanium Driver
Titleist says that its new 905 Series drivers offer a large profile driver designed for an optimal combination of ball speed, launch and spin. With its large front-to-back profile, it offers increased dynamic loft for high launch and moderate to low spin. Titleist says that this makes it suitable for both better and aspiring players. A thin outer face flange offers better distance and accuracy on off-center hits.

Cobra Speed Series Driver
Cobra’s latest is its Speed Series Driver. With three different drivers for three different swing speeds (labeled X, F, and M), Cobra believes that it has maximized launch angle flex, accuracy and distance for every golfer.
This driver has a massive 460 cc head and Cobra’s 9 Points face technolocy. When combined with a wide body sole design, dual weighting system and a new lower center of gravity, there’s no way yo can miss the sweet spot on this thing.

TaylorMade R7 425 Driver
At 425cc’s, TaylorMade’s new R7 425 is the largest in its line of R7 drivers. Like previous models, it has four weight ports, and four removable cartridges. The larger size, however, expands on the already incredibly forgiving R7 design. The larger head offers an even bigger sweet spot than before, resulting in longer, straighter shots on off-center hits.
The clubface is slightly closed, offering additional accuracy to the average golfer.
The club also has an upgraded shaft: the Fujikura RE*AX. The design of the shaft prevents ovaling, thus promoting stability.

Nike Sasquatch Driver
I must not have been paying attention because, I just saw this Sasquatch Tour Driver at Golfsmith. I’d seen the ads, but hadn’t realized that it was out yet.
Its not too badly priced: the tour edition with an “exotic” shaft is just $349. Maybe we’ve seen the last of the $500 drivers.

Walter Hagen AWS Driver

Walter Hagen AWS Driver
Grade: A
There is an awful lot to like about the Walter Hagen AWS Titanium Driver from Dick’s Sporting Goods. It’s a well-balanced, sweet feeling club that gets good distance. And it has the added benefit of a movable weight system.
But it’s a club that I’d guess that most of the golfing world is unaware of.

Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Driver
Callaway has finally released the Big Bertha Fusion FT-3 Neutral Driver that its tour pros have been playing in recent months. Michael Campbell used it to win the US Open Championship, and Phil Mickelson and Annika Sorenstam have also driven it to wins.
The idea is that the composite head allows them to redistribute weight where its needed to shape shots.
