Category: Training Aids
Golf is a difficult game to master. And to help you through it, inventive minds have come up with thousands of different training devices. From the Swing Jacket, to the Medicus, the SpeedStick, the Inside Approach, the Impact Bag and the Birdie Ball, there's something that will help everyone's game.
Putting Arc Deluxe
The Putting Arc Deluxe is a beautifully finished wood arc that’s supposed to help you transcribe the perfect putting arc. Your putterhead travels on an inside to square to inside path, taking wristy stabbing actions out of play.
Putting is half the game of golf. I’m good at it, and my putting makes up for a lot of full swing faults. I know that if I can just somehow get the ball on the green, it’s in the hole in no more than two strokes.

True Ympact Swing Trainer
The True Ympact Swing Trainer helps the golfer learn to maintain the correct impact position for consistent ball striking. With this in place, it keeps the player from flipping the wrists, and thus encourages that “lag” that helps Tour players hit it so far and accurately.
One of my major swing faults is that my wrists break too soon. This would surely help.

SKLZ Swing Kite Golf Trainer
I used to think these things were ridiculous, but earlier this summer, PGA pro Jordan Young at the Fox Hills Training Center had me work with a similar device to work on proper lag and release. I could really feel it and think it helped.
I’m not sure how to convince Mrs. GolfBlogger that I need yet another training gadget, though.

Momentus Weighted Shoulder Turn Vest
MOMENTUS Weighted Shoulder Turn Vest
These shoulder weights from Momentus are supposed to help teach you how to make a better and bigger shoulder turn and strengthen the key muscle groups in the core and the shoulders. The five pound weights also are supposed to help with balance.
You can’t go wrong with building up the core golf muscles.

Izzo Golf Medicine Ball
One of the first training exercises I practiced was with a medicine ball. Holding it in my hands, I would make a short backswing, and then follow through. It was great for developing the proper weight shift. The one I have isn’t anything special—it’s just one of those designed for school gymnasium use. This one, however, seems to come with a dvd of additional golf exercises you can do.

Momentus Power Hitter 275
I had a chance to work with the Momentus Power Hitter 275 at the Black Lake Golf school this past week. I found it useful for feeling the clubhead and working on extending my swing outward to the target, rather that picking it up as I followed through.

Golf MVP Red Heat
I know why I lose power on my swings. It’s a result of not holding the wrist angle long enough, and thus failing to develop lag. But I can’t stop myself from doing it. I’ve worked on a number of drills, but as usual, I’m now in search of a teaching gadget.
This Golf MVP Red Heat looks interesting. The gadget attaches to your wrist, and is supposed to let you “feel” the lag. It’s expensive, though ...
