Category: The Masters
Augusta National and the Masters Tournament are Bobby Jones' second enduring legacy to golf. The course and club were founded in 1931, after Jones retired from competitive golf. The tournament originally was called the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, because Jones didn't like the sound of "The Masters." However, the name changed in 1939. Horton Smith won the first Masters, but it was Gene Sarazen in the second who put the tournament on the map with his double eagle on the 15th -- the "shot heard round the world." Watch this section for articles and updates on The Masters, including scores, leaderboards, and results.
Odds For 2008 Masters March 29, 2008
It’s no surprise that the oddsmakers at Bodog Life have Tiger Woods as the odd-on favorite to win the Masters at an astounding 1/1. No surprise either that Phil Mickelson clocks in second at 9/1.
The GolfBlogger’s favorite, however, is Vijay Singh. Bodog has him coming in at 22/1, but I like the way he’s retooled his swing and his putting seems to be more solid as of late.

Direct TV Offers Enhanced Coverage of Masters Tournament
Another reason I’m glad I ditched Comcast and went to Direct TV: the satellite channel will offer “enhanced” Masters coverage this year:
The centerpiece of DIRECTV’s coverage of the Tournament will be the Masters Mix Channel, offering viewers a unique window on the fabled Augusta course with access to four different views on one screen, including a view dedicated to covering the famed “Amen Corner,” another focusing on critical finishing holes 15 and 16, a continuously updated highlight channel showcasing Tournament leaders and their scores, and the CBS national broadcast.
Viewers will also be able to access scores and stats, a top five leader board, Masters trivia and Tournament history by clicking on a small menu icon that appears on each channel.
There’s more, too, on two separate channels. It sounds really cool.
Masters Champion Zach Johnson’s Swing
Here’s a swing analysis of 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson. His extension through the swing is just amazing.
An Iowa Perspective on Masters Winner Zach Johnson
Zach Johnson is, understandably, quite the hero in Iowa. For a perspective from that state, read The DesMoines Register’s article on what’s next for the Masters winner.
What’s Up With Zach Johnson
In a funny (perhaps bittersweet) bit on Bloomberg.Com, Scott Soshnick wonders what’s gotten into Zach Johnson, who is not acting like Major winner. He still drives his own RV, doesn’t own a yacht and a trophy wife, and—heaven forbid—is actually playing the week following his victory.
Soshnick suggests that he take a page from Tiger’s playbook and take a few weeks off. But that’s not for Johnson.
The mere fact that Johnson showed up at the Heritage is enough to make any prima donna athlete boil. He should have had the good sense to withdraw and spend more time on his post-Masters media tour, which included visits with David Letterman, CNN, ESPN and Regis & Kelly. But he didn’t. Keeping his word was more important.
Meet Zach Johnson of Iowa, where handshakes are contracts and where a man’s word is more valuable than his limousine, private jet or diamond-encrusted wristwatch.
``For a number of reasons, I felt like I should be there,’’ Johnson said. ``First and foremost, I committed, so I’m going to uphold that.’’
