Augusta National and the Masters Tournament are Bobby Jones' second enduring legacy to golf. The course and club were founded in 1931, after Jones retired from competitive golf. The tournament originally was called the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, because Jones didn't like the sound of "The Masters." However, the name changed in 1939. Horton Smith won the first Masters, but it was Gene Sarazen in the second who put the tournament on the map with his double eagle on the 15th -- the "shot heard round the world."

Fate intervenes to get John Daly to the Masters Tournament. Although he missed the cut at the Players', the fact that Scott won, and nobody behind Daly finished second got the big guy in.
I hope he wins. That would give him 3 of the 4 Majors and would cause all kinds of chaos. Unfortunately, his game is so erratic that I doubt he can put together four good days under that kind of pressure.

Arnie will start in his 50th -- and last -- Masters' this weekend. I'm going to miss him. No other current player has half his charisma. I wish he wouldn't quit. I, for one, would pay to see him shoot in the 90s. The score doesn't matter to me when Palmer is playing.
But Palmer is going to hang it up. When Hootie Johnson started telling older players they were done, Arnold announced that 2004 would be it for him.. "I don't want to get a letter," he said.
If Hootie Johnson has a legacy, it won't be about Martha Burke, but about how he drove the legends out of the most legendary of tournaments.
Here's a story on Arnold Palmer's army, and the importance of his presence at the Masters'.

By virtue of being 10th on this year's money list, Daly is in the Masters. Good. The stuffed suits who run Augusta need Big John to loosen them up a bit. I can only imagine the horror they must be feeling now.

LONDON (Reuters) -- American Chad Campbell has been regarded as a class act by his peers since he won eight of the first 16 events on the 2000 U.S. Hooters Tour, the breeding ground for the main PGA Tour.
It has taken longer for the wider public to acknowledge his rich talent, but that should change following his six-shot victory at the Bay Hill Invitational on Sunday
