The FedEx Cup is the PGA Tour's name for its new end-of-season championship. Consisting of four rounds, in which the field is reduced at each stage, the finals will be played Sept. 13 - 16 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. East Lake, perhaps not coincidentally, was the home club of Bobby Jones.
Phil Mickelson—who shot an unheralded 69 in the final round of the PGA at Southern Hills—says that he’s ready for the FedEx Cup “Playoffs.”
Mickelson, who was playing well early in the season, had injured his wrist preparing for the US Open. He said that Southern Hills was the first time he felt healthy since then.
It would be good to see a resurgent Mickelson in the Cup series. But the way Tiger is playing right now, I’m afraid that his ultimate victory is a foregone conclusion.
