Golfer Killed By Golf Ball
I’m reading about this sort of tragedy with depressingly increasing frequency.
In this case, a 16-year-old girl in Sydney was killed when she was struck in the temple by a golf ball. She had been playing in a golfing competition.
As crowded as courses are these days, I think that we have to be extra careful when we take a swing to be sure that people are out of the line of fire—especially people within a hundred yards—which is too close for anyone to react with a “fore.”
It also makes it increasingly unfunny to hit into a group ahead ... something that I’ve seen people do for yucks.

Bizarre Golf Club Death
Not a week goes by without there being a report in the news about someone who has been injured—or killed with a golf club or cart. Sometimes it’s an accident; other times, its a criminal assault. Fortunately, only rarely is it associated with the actual playing of the game.
A recent case in Boston is one of the strangest I’ve read about. Apparently, a teen found a golf club on the street and hit a fire hydrant with it. The club snapped, and a piece stabbed him in the neck. He died a short time later.
Sad.

Do Lightening Detectors Work?
My club has a lightening detector sitting on the top of the clubhouse. I think the things are an excellent idea, but there are some who think the things don’t really work. There’s an article on the Thor Guard Lightening Detector in the Miami Herald.
