TaylorMade R7 CGB Max 2008 Irons
TaylorMade r7 CGB Max 2008 Men’s Iron Set
Updated for 2008, the TaylorMade R7 CGB Max irons feature a wealth of technologies designed to make the game easier. This oversized head has a thin and flexible steel clubface which, when combined with the Inverted Cone Technology offers a very high coefficient of restitution (rebound effect) for faster ball speed and longer shots. The CGB stands for Center of Gravity Back, which is designed New for 2008 is TaylorMade’s Superfast Technology—a lightweight grip and shaft to promote more clubhead speed, more ball speed, and thus more distance.
This is a set that I’d really like to have.
Pinemeadow ZR1 Irons and Hybrid Set
Pinemeadow Golf’s ZR1 irons are designed to offer the playability of Ping’s G10s at a fraction of the price. With the weight distribution through the new cavity design, it’s got a huge sweet spot that will help improve inconsistent iron play. Even better: this set comes with matching hybrids to replace the 3 and 4 irons that you can’t hit anyway.
Cobra UFI Irons
The UFI in Cobra’s new UFi Irons stands for ultimate forgiveness. Cobra has designed these using multiple materials: a Metal Matrix face incert, a polymer topline, a tungsten heel and toe weight, and steel alloy body. Cobra says that the combination of these materials results in Cobra’s highest Moment of Inertia and lowest Center of Gravity ever. That makes off center shots go further, and helps golfers to get the ball in the air more easily.
Acer Mantara Iron
Hireko Golf’s Mantara irons feature an ultra-high moment of intertia to reduce twising on off center hit. By strategically removing mass and reapplying it to the low and rear corners of the club, Hireko has created massive perimeter weighting. Hireko says that the wide sole and twin rear wings provide hybrid-like accuracy, while still maintaining the preferred look of an iron. A radiused sole is designed to help prevent “fat” shots and make this the most playable club offered by Hireko.
I think it’s very sharp looking.
Callaway Big Bertha Womens Irons
Callaway Big Bertha 2008 Women’s Iron Set
Callaway’s 2008 Women’s Irons are designed specifically for women’s swings and to be their most forgiving ever. This set breaks out of the mold by substituting the traditional 4- through 7- irons for I-Brids. The I-brids are Callaway’s new hybrid-iron blend that feature extremely wide soles and a very low center of gravity to help women amateurs with their biggest problem: getting the ball in the air. The mid and short irons in the set are super-game improvement models with increased offset and a huge hitting area. The entire collection has been designed to offer a progression with consistent distance and optimal trajectories.
Women’s golf is an underserved market. It’s not enough to simply rebrand a men’s club and color it pink and blue. Women have specific swing issues and designers need to work on them from the ground up. It looks like Callaway has taken this approach.
