Nothing seems to inspire golfers as much as the quest for newer, better equipment. There's always a new set of irons, a new driver, or putter, fairway wood or hybrid to try and buy. We all seem to believe that if we just get the right club, our games will improve.

Ping G5 Hybrid

It seems like everyone is getting into the hybrid business. Ping has released a new set of G5 Hybrids that they say uses the same variable thickness technology that graces the G5 drivers, and ave a sloped crown to move the center of gravity away from the face.

I like the look of that crown. Its quite different from the other hybrids.

TaylorMade R7 XD Irons

r7 XD Irons 3-PW w/Steel Shaft

The new TaylorMade r7 XD Irons have really got my attention. It looks like TaylorMade has just about packed every bit of technology that they can think of into these clubs. And that’s something a geek like me just HAS to pay attention to.

The r7 XD combines the Tuned Performance Cartridge (which has been a feature of TaylorMade’s irons for several years), with the Inverted Cone Technology which makes their woods and drivers so forgiving.

The club also seems to have a separate body and face—similar, I’d guess to the Ben Hogan CFT that was out a couple of years ago.

The CNC-milled titanium clubface is supposed to promote higher initial ball speed, and thus carry and distance. It also allows TaylorMade to save weight and reposition the center of gravity lower and deeper, which also makes the club more playable.

I liked the two-piece design of the CFT when it came out, although after playing with a demo set decided that they weren’t for me. But the truth is that I’ve been wondering why someone else hasn’t pursued the two-piece design. It makes so much sense. After all, drivers, fairway woods and hybrids have thin faces welded to hollow bodies. Why not irons?

I’d love to give a set of these a ride. I’m going to have to keep my eyes open to see if anyone at the club has a set in their bag.

Noodle Ice Golf Ball

MaxFli has added a new ball to its popular Noodle line. In addition to the Long and Soft Noodle, the Lontest Noodle, and the Softest Noodle, the line now includes the Noodle Ice.

The Noodle Ice performs like the other Noodle balls, but has a transparent cover, which reveals a colored core of lime, lemon, tangerine and raspberry.

TaylorMade says that the colors make it easier for golfers to focus on teh ball at address, and thus promotes better and more solid contact.

Red Max

TaylorMade has introduced the RedMAX, a new softer ball to complement the premium BlackMAXl. The MaxFli product. Even better - the RedMAX is designed so that players don’t’ need a high swing speed to take advantage of its qualities.

I really liked the BlackMax when I tried a box this last spring. I’m looking forward to trying the Red.
