TaylorMade R7 425 Weight Configurator
TaylorMade has a little online flash toy called the Weight Configurator (is that a word?) to help you figure out where to put the weights on your new R7 425 for maximum effect. I’m setting mine up for maximum Fade. That means putting the 12 gram weights toward the toe and the 2 gram ones closer to the inside.
What I wonder, and what the site doesn’t seem to tell me is whether it would help to install a couple of 14 gram weights in place of the 12 gram ones. Presumably, this would make the fade even more pronounced. Or maybe it would just mess up their finely tuned club. I’m deliberating over whether to get a couple.
Nike Sasquatch Reviews Wanted
Over the past few weeks, “Nike Sasquatch” has been one of the most searched-for golf terms out there. I’ve gotten hundreds of visits from people looking for a review.
No wonder. The Sasquatch is Tiger’s driver of choice, and it was the one used by Rory Sabbatini when he won the Nissan.
But as of yet, I’ve been unable to get my hands on one to try it out, so I can’t offer a review (are you listening Nike? You could send me one so I could do a review. I’d even send it back afterwards, if you wanted).
So I’m turning to you, gentle readers. If someone has had a chance to play with a Sasquatch, I’d appreciate hearing about it. Just click on the comments link below and leave a few words.
Nike Sasquatch Driver
The Nike Sasquatch Driver was the Editor’s Choice in Golf Digest’s 2006 Hot List equipment review. It’s said to have the largest footprint (thus, Sasquatch, which is a Native American word for “Bigfoot") fo any current driver, which it achieves by having a head that’s as long front to back as it is heel to toe. This has alowed Nike to get a lower, deeper center of gravity without weights.
The wide, yet streamlined head is very distinctive, especially with its yellow soleplate.
R7 425 Recall Rumors Apparently Not True
I’ve been getting a lot of inbound traffic over the last few days using search terms like: R7 425 Tip Problem ; R7 425 Shaft Problem ; and R7 425 Recall.
There apparently is a rumor floating around out there of a problem with TaylorMade’s latest driver. I tried Googling to find the source of the rumor, but was unsuccessful.
So I contacted a source at TaylorMade for information. The unofficial official story is that there was an “assembly problem” with a few clubs in the first batch of drivers (not the shaft problem of the runors) and that none of the problem drivers made it to the consumer. Those that made it to retailers were returned.
So, none of the clubs that were sold, or that currently are at retailers were affected.
Since I think of a recall as a company having to call back products that have been sold to consumers, I’d say that the recall rumors just aren’t true. But if TaylorMade ever releases an official official statement, I’ll pass it on.
Titleist 905T Pro Titanium Driver
Titleist says that its new 905 Series drivers offer a large profile driver designed for an optimal combination of ball speed, launch and spin. With its large front-to-back profile, it offers increased dynamic loft for high launch and moderate to low spin. Titleist says that this makes it suitable for both better and aspiring players. A thin outer face flange offers better distance and accuracy on off-center hits.
