Wilson Ci6 Irons

WILSON Staff Ci6 3-PW Iron Set w/ Steel Shafts

Wilson’s Ci6 Irons were a Tester’s Top Pick in the 2006 Golf Magazine Club Test. Designed for mid-handicappers, they featuring a full cavity back, with a small undercut and a low center of gravity. The cavity is coated with an “elastomeric dampening layer” which Wilson says reduces vibrations by one third.  A progressive tip design transitions from high tip flexibility in the long irons for a higher launch, to a stiff tip in the mid-to-short irons for a lower launch and maximum control.

They’re also a good looking set of irons, with thinner toplines than most of the game improvement irons.

  • I went to a large golf store nearby and grabbed six irons from the following manufacturers;  Wilson Ci 6, Taylor Made RAC 0S, Cleveland Launcher, Nike Slingshot,
    Ping G5, and Mizuno MX17.

I was able to hit them over and over again in their simulator for about a half hour to make my decision.  I had read the reviews on the Wilson Ci6 and knew they were Golf Magazine’s favorite, but I went into the testing not really wanting the Wilson’s because I felt the other name brands seemed to be more golf oriented.

Well, there was no getting around it, the Wilson’s felt the best overall.  There were some models that I occasionally hit as straight and far, but not consistently.  The Wilson’s just felt right.  They flew very far and had a really nice sensation when hitting the ball.  I never felt a lot of vibrations.

I am 5ft 10 and about 175lbs.  These Wilson’s had to be shortened one half inch on all the clubs since they seemed to be longer than the others by about that much.  I am sure if I could have adjusted to this extra length it might have provided me with a little more distance, but I was already hitting them quite far compared to my old clubs.

I played many rounds with them since my purchase and am thrilled with the results.  I had been using knock-offs I got from pinemeadowgolf.com ever since I started playing about 6 years ago.  I am now 37 years old.  The difference is quite noticeable.  I am a big believer in swing mechanics and tempo, etc. but there is no doubt good equipment can also give an edge everything else being equal.

I would highly recommend anyone go out and do the same testing and see for yourself which clubs feel the best when you swing the club and hit the ball.  It really helped me make up my mind.

    Happy Hunting.
