Wie May Ask For Appearance Fees

September 23, 2005

The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that when Michelle Wie turns pro, she may use a loophole in tour rules to collect appearance fees. The William Morris group—her agent—apparently has been asking tournaments what they would pay to have her show up. Speculation is that she could collect as much as $50 thousand an appearance.

While she would not be able to take appearance fees from LPGA events, she is not forbidden from collecting them on other tours.
