Why is the (British) Open Championship better than the US Open?

One word: birdies

They actually have them as a part of normal play.

  • Agreed. An exciting championship allows for brilliance to put on a display, rather than simply rewarding the last man standing.

  • Very true, although the 2011 US Open was a different story. Both tournaments are different in their own right. The US Open is more of a battle to the death and the guy that avoids the most trouble.

The British Open involves a lot more skill against the elements including the weather, rough and the ability to play shots with a bit of imagination.
