What’s The Most You’ve Paid For A Round of Golf?

February 16, 2007

The GolfBlogger is doing a little bit of an informal, unscientific survey here: What’s the most you’ve paid for a round of golf? Name the course, location and price.

For me, it was $85 at the Little Traverse Bay Golf Club in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Nice course, great vistas.

  • $175 at Old Greenwood in Lake Tahoe, California. Beautiful course and they’ve raised the price since I went.

  • I Played True Blue in Myrtle Beach a couple years ago for about $80.  The price has gone up since then.  kirkf

  • $85 at a private course in Pennsylvania, where my brother-in-law used to play.

    Nice thing about our munis around my city…the most you pay walking for a round of 18 is $18, even at peak times on Saturday morning.  After 3 on a weekday (twilight) is $11…all you can play.

  • John B - the same is true in Michigan. You can get on some really nice courses for under $30

  • The first time I ever played (about 20 months ago) was because my wife told her Dad I’d take him golfing when he visited.  I asked a few co-workers for suggestions on where to play and we ended up playing at Timber Creek in southeast Houston.  The cost was 57.00 each.  I was shocked and decided golf was way to expensive.  Later, wanting to play more, I learned there were plenty of courses to play for under 20.00.  I have not been back to Timber Creek.

  • $300.00(cdn) Kingsbarns - outside St Andrews, Scotland, 2000, not including caddy, caddymaster, etc.

    Priceless

  • I played Torrey Pines (San Diego) about 10 years ago, but don’t recall the greens fees.  I’d guess $50-$75. I could only get on the North course if I also rented a cart.  The South course, where the PGA/Buick is played, was booked solid.

  • On a pure price point, it’d be $90 for a round at Hidden River Golf and Casting Club (the only course I’ve seen that has a bunker shaped like a fish).  However, on the same trip, I paid an $85 upgrade fee to play Bay Harbor Country Club.  Worth every penny.

    Having said all that, I am really spoiled where I live…I am about a good par 5 distance away from Milham Park Golf Course, which is a) beautiful, and b) extremely reasonable ($24 to walk 18 anytime).  GolfBlogger…if you ever find yourself out in the AZO, check it out.

  • It was about $100, but that was $70 greens and $30 cart at Ohio State Golf Club / Scarlet course.  Second was about $80 on Lake Buena Vista at Disneyworld (that was greens with cart included).

    I did pay $65 to play nine as well at Bald Head Island, NC.

  • I paid $175 to play the Azalea course at the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa.  It’s on the Robert Trent Jones Trail and the course was in great shape.

  • I polled my readers at Hooked On Golf Blog a somewhat related question:

    What’s the most you’d pay for a round of golf?
    $500+ -> 10%
    $300 -> 9%
    $200 -> 29%
    $100 -> 38%
    $50 -> 14%

    Personally I’ve paid $200 to play at La Costa.

  • The most was $500 to play Shadow Creek in Las Vegas.  Worth it to see once, wouldn’t do it on a regular basis.  The closest to being worth it was Cabo del Sol in Cabo san Lucas last week.  $350 per round.  It is an annual treat for me but I would gladly spend my last $350 to play there one more time.

  • Being a 5 handicap golfer i’m always on the look out for great championship courses that you can play. After reading a review on http://www.golfcourseworld.co.uk of the west course at Wentworth Golf Club, i was surprised to find out it was open to visitors. I paid £265 for just 18 holes, but thought it might be worth it to play such a famous course. I was wrong, it was worth it because i shot 103 and took nearly 5 1/2 hours to get round. Now thats good value!!!!!!
