Weekend Tournaments Offer Thrilling Finishes
I don’t know that there has been a weekend that offered two such thrilling tournament finishes as this last one. The Ford Championship at Doral and the Dubai both were back and forth contests that came down to the last shot. Although Woods and Els were the winners, I don’t think that Mickelson and Jimenez were in any way losers. As Vince Lombardi once said: We didn’t lose the game, we just ran out of time. Phil and Miguel Angel both just ran out of holes.
If you missed the Ford Championship, you can read a summary here. And there’s a Dubai summary here.

It does nothing, you know, to promote golf blogs if all any of them ever do is link to well-established sites like pgatour.com, ESPN.com, etc.
The Sand Trap covered these stories too, and we gladly link to other lesser-known sites when they’ve got stories. A rising tide raises all boats, you know.

NBC has the best golf coverage among major networks. I just find it insulting(and I am sure other golfers do,too) when Tiger`s name shoots to the top of their leaderboard, regardless of what hole he is at when tied with others, or who he has just tied for the lead, when the one he is tied with has been leading the tournament. This giant Tiger Suck-up makes me sick, and fed up with the networks, sponsors, event organizers and everybody else who wants to be first to kiss his feet to look good in the ratings.
Golf is bigger then one golfer or one sponsor.

I don’t know that it’s a suck-up. It’s simply that television folks know their business, and part of that is “Tiger = Ratings.” They’re just making a buck.
The final hour earned a 7.7 share, and the Sunday coverage itself earned a 5.9 - higher than the final rounds of two of last year’s majors (the PGA and the Open).
