UM Transplant Center Golf Outing
Mrs. GolfBlogger works at UM Hospital, so I’m always glad to promote their efforts. A press release on the UM Transplant Center’s Golf Outing follows:
ANN ARBOR, MI – On Monday, July 9, the University of Michigan Transplant Center will host the Camp Michitanki Golf Classic at the Polo Fields Golf and Country Club of Ann Arbor. Event sponsors include Victory Honda, Hantz Air, Cueter Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Roche Pharmaceuticals.
The event will benefit Camp Michitanki ( “Michigan Transplant Kids” ), the U-M Transplant Center’s week-long summer camp for kids who have received heart, lung, liver or kidney transplants. In its first year, the camp hosted 40 campers. Now in its fifth year, the 2007 camp is expected to host 100 young campers.
NHL referee Dan O’Halloran will be the official Master of Ceremonies for the Camp Michitanki Golf Classic event. A long-time supporter of Camp Michitanki, O’Halloran refereed the 2007 Stanley Cup finals. O’Halloran’s son is a liver transplant recipient, former camper and current counselor at Camp Michitanki.
The Camp Michitanki Golf Classic is a four-person scramble, with prizes for the top team and many on-course contests.
Registration begins at 10 a.m., followed by lunch and open driving range before the 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The silent auction will begin at 5 p.m., and the live auction and dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Auction items include autographed NHL jerseys, framed works of art, a Northern Michigan vacation getaway, golf equipment and much more.
Early registration is recommended. The event is $175 per golfer. Spot also are available for hole sponsorships at $250, which includes two tickets to the dinner and auction. Dinner and auction tickets can be purchased for non-golfers for $50. The event registration form is available under “events” at http://www.michigantransplant.org.

About Camp Michitanki
Camp Michitanki campers have the opportunity to build their confidence, develop new friendships and understand their health conditions, while experiencing the joys of summer camp.
Many transplant recipients are discouraged from attending other summer camps due to their challenging medication schedules and special medical care requirements. However, Camp Michitanki’s unique setting provides an opportunity for transplant kids to test their personal physical and social limits, experience a variety of accomplishments and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Campers also participate in discussions of ongoing medical needs and strategies for integrating post-transplant regimens with routine daily activities.
