Titleist 735CM Irons
The Titleist 735CM Irons made Golf Digest’s 2006 Hot List in the Player’s Irons category. The 735s are a “progressive” set, meaning that they progress from a cavity back in the longer irons to a muscle back design in the shorter clubs. Each club also varies with its blade length, offeset, topline, center of gravity and moment of inertia.
The CM in the name stands for Cavity to Muscle.
The intent of any progressive or “combo” design is to have a set of irons in which just the right amount of help is offered on each club. For the longest of irons, combo sets will offer cavity backs for stability on off-center hits, a larger clubface and more offset. But even average players don’t need all of that help with the shorter clubs, so those will have a more traditional design for feel aand shot shaping—the characteristics you want in your scoring clubs.
Titleist’s 735CMs are a combo set for the better player. Staying true to Titleist’s reputation as a player’s club, they don’t offer the extreme game improvement functions of a Callaway or Ping. But in the longer irons, they do offer help even a low handicapper can appreciate.
