The Price of A US Open

August 30, 2008

When I played Torrey Pines South last year, the locals I met told me that they believed the North course actually was the better track.

“It’s prettier,” one said. “It’s more fun,” said another. They encouraged me to play it, but I stuck to my plans to try the future site of the US Open.

Those guys should be happier now, because the North Course finally has reopened—after being closed for SEVEN MONTHS as a result of the US Open’s appearance.

That’s the price, apparently of hosing a major event: you don’t get to use your home course.
