Terry Delcamp of Grand Blanc, the 2014 Senior Women’s Champion, edged Greer Clausen and Julie Bassa by one shoot to win the Golf Association of Michigan’s Tournament of Champions Monday at Oakland Hills.
A chip-in on the 18th was the margin of victory.
This was Delcamp’s third Tournament of Champions win.

Terry Delcamp’s Rebound Year Closes with GAM Tournament of Champions Title
BLOOMFIELD HILLS – Terry Delcamp’s successful 2014 came to a fitting conclusion with her victory in the GAM Tournament of Champions presented by Preferred Data Systems at Oakland Hills Country Club’s North Course Monday.
Delcamp, 52, a Grand Blanc resident and this summer’s GAM Senior Women’s Champion, shot a 6-over 77 to slip past defending champion Greer Clausen of Bloomfield Hills and Julie Massa of Holt by one shot.
She chipped in on the 18th hole for the win and called it a surprise.
“It feels good and it has been a great year for me,” she said. “Winning this is a surprise because the round was going south there for a few holes. I doubled No. 10 from the bank bunker when my ball was in a deep (hoof) print, but I was 2-under from 12 on and it was good enough.”
Massa’s 78 was marred by a 2-shot penalty after her ball moved on a green after address and she didn’t replace it, and Delcamp felt bad for her.
“You know Julie really probably beat me or at least tied me,” he said. “It was a bad break and a tough way for her to lose because she played great.”
Delcamp, who won the season-ending Tournament of Champions for a third time, said 2014 was a comeback year for her. After representing the Golf Association of Michigan in 2009 in the USGA State Team Championships she lost her golf swing and confidence for a few years.
“I didn’t play in much the last few years because it was no fun to compete and play poorly,” she said. “I started working with Rick Kent over at Spring Meadows and he gave me almost immediate help. I started playing better and confidence comes with that. It’s fun to play well.”
She said she was waffling between putting or chipping the final shot at 18.
“Julie had chipped in on the first hole and so I said to her I was going try and end the round that way,” she said. “And it went in. Turned out it was important.”
Clausen, a freshman golfer at Michigan State University who caddies at Oakland Hills, said she couldn’t get a putt to drop in her round.
“I know the greens, but 38 putts,” she said. “It was frustrating.”
Ashley Picklo of Clarkston shot 80 for fourth place, and Cindy Troyanovich of Grosse Pointe Shores shot 81 to round out the top five.
A field of 144 men and women golfers played in the event on the North and South courses. Joe Hooks of Commerce Township topped Tom Werkmeister of Kentwood on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the men’s title on the South Course.
The tournament was open to champions of GAM member clubs and courses as well as winners of 2014 GAM championships, and ends the tournament season.
The GAM was founded in 1919 as the governing body for amateur golf in the state. As a not-for-profit organization, the GAM’s purpose is to represent, promote, preserve, and serve the best interests of the game. The GAM provides membership to more than 60,000 golfers and more than 400 golf courses while conducting 19 amateur championships and 14 United States Golf Association (USGA) qualifying events.
