Here’s a photo I took with my new Canon Rebel XSi digital SLR camera. I used a macro lens and my home made light box.

Very nice.
I was looking to upgrade my Minolta Maxxum to a Sony a350, and instead tonight abandoned the Maxxum/Alpha line after 20+ years. I ordered a Nikon D80, and hope to get it by next weekend. I got turned by the lack of support for the Minolta/Sonys in the stores, and by my Nikon enthusiast friends.

I had a personal fondness for the Nikon line, having used a Nikkormat 35mm back in the day. But the “live view” function that Canon had with the lcd screen on the Rebel sold me. I’d gotten used to having that with the Canon point-and-shoot that I’ve been using

The live view function is really nice, especially for a “height-challenged” fellow like me. There were definitely moments when I would like to have put my Nikon up over the crowd for a better shot, but couldn’t see what I was shooting! I think that is one thing I will definitely be looking for on my next one.
Glad you’re having fun with that camera.
And Martin, good choice on your camera! Friend of mine has the D80. Really nice.

I recently upgraded from a point and shoot to a Nikon D60. I love it! I am just getting started in photography and this camera has really made learning fun.
I like to shoot architecture and nature and am currently looking for a lens that will help to get close up shots of birds and other wildlife. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Depends on how much you want to spend. We could get into a long discussion, so I will keep my opinion short and suggest you look at dpreview.com - the forums there have lens sections for Nikon and Canon. Also for Nikon there is kenrockwell.com.
I am going with the Nikon 70-300 VR, that may not be long enough for what you want. I was going to go with the Sigma 70-300 APO Macro DG, which is what I had on my Minolta, and it is a VERY good lens for $200, or about $140 used—but I was playing with the VR lenses the other day and decided that I had to have that for my 70-300 even if it was double the price of the Sigma..
