Rickie Fowler Makes First Eagle In Rooms For The Brave
Mrs. GolfBlogger and I just happened to be walking on the first hole when Rickie Fowler rolled in a 20 foot putt for Eagle (it actually was his tenth hole, since he started on the back nine). Fowler’s eagle three was the first to kick off Crowne Plaza’s Rooms for the Brave program. Rooms for the Brave is Crowne Plaza’s program to offer military families “together time” at their hotel and resort properties.
Unfortunately, we also were sitting on the stands on the ninth when he plunked one into the water to take a double bogey on nine. At that point, Fowler was chasing records. A bird would have set the tournament record; an eagle would have gotten him to the magical 59.
Fowler’s an interesting character and has done a good job of marketing himself. As one wag put it, he’s the Justin Bieber of golf. I can’t tell you how many young lads were following him around, sporting the shaggy haircut and ridiculously wide Puma caps.
