Radar Golf System

April 23, 2006

RADAR GOLF System

The Radar Golf system promises to end the problem of lost golf balls forever.

Each Radar golf ball is imbedded with a microchip that communicates with the handheld Radar Golf receiver. The handheld sends out a radio signal, which causes the chip in the ball to return a specific RF signal. The receiver listens for that signal, and then provides visual feedback via the LCD and an audio tone that help you to hone in on your ball.

The manufacturer claims that it has a range from 30 - 100 feet depending on the terrain.

Of course, the reciever will locate any RadarGolf ball on your person, too. So the RadarGolf kit comes with a special bag that blocks the signals.

RadarGolf says that the ball conforms to all USGA standards. Further, it apparently is legal for use in posting handicaps because it does not help with the golf swing.

Teh manufacturer also says that their balls have been tested against other balls such as the Nike Mojo, the Titleist NXT and the Maxfli Noodle, and that it has performed competitively in distance, velocity, spin and durability. Theoretically, any manufacturer could license the ball and insert the chip into its models.

It’s an interesting product, especially if you don’t spend a lot of time in the fairways.

  • I use this system and it works great. My home course has that deep rough - you know that this ball is just off the short stuff but just can’t find it. In order to keep moving you just drop one.  RadarGolf fixes that without a problem. The balls go farther than my Callaway black that I usually play

  • This product is a waste of money.  Not only does it only rarely locate balls that you couldn’t locate visually, you look like a complete idiot waiving the stupid beeper around.  Then when you can’t find your ball all your pals laugh at how stupid you looked looking for it with your “radar”.  This adds to the frustration of the game.  This thing only beeps from about 10 feet from your ball even when in plain view.  It also beeps at most obstuctions like fences, electrical boxes, sprinklers, etc.
