Quail Hollow Championship Odds

The Quail Hollow Championship has been positioned over the last couple of years as a sort of “sixth major”—that is, if you buy the notion that the Players Championship is the “fifth major.”

At any rate, thanks to a rare Tiger sighting, it’s got a very strong field, including most of the top ten: Tiger Woods (1), Phil Mickelson (2), Sergio Garcia (3), Geoff Ogilvy (4), Padraig Harrington (7), Vijay Singh (8) and Camilo Villegas (10). It also has eleven players who have won on the PGA tour this year.

The oddsmakers at Bodoglife have Tiger leading the pack at 5/2, while Phil Mickelson is second on the list at 9/1. Goeff Ogilvy is at 18/1, Anthony Kim at 28/1, Jim Furyk at 28/1. Hunter Mahan, Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia are at 33/1, while Retief Goosen and Rory Sabbatini round out the top ten at 40/1.

I have to say I’m a little surprised with the direction the betting seems to be going with Anthony Kim. He’s 46th in the FedEx Cup rankings, which for my money tells me that forty five players are having a better year. But maybe the oddsmakers know something I don’t.
