Publicly Accessible US Open Golf Courses
With the US Open returning to Bethpage Black, it stands as just one of four publicly accessible courses to host a US Open. The others are Torrey Pines, Pinehurst #2 and Pebble Beach. Chambers Bay in Washington State will join that list in 2015.
Pinehust will pull off an unprecedented feat in 2014, when it hosts both the Women’s and Men’s Opens in back-to-back weeks.
I had the good fortune to be able to play Torrey Pines in the year before they held the Open, and knowing the holes made watching the Open a whole lot more fun. I can only imagine the fun New Yorkers are having watching the pros play a course that so many of them have played.
There also are a number of PGA Tour stops that you could play if you set your sights a bit lower, among them Doral, Harbour Town Links, Disney’s Magnolia and Palm Courses, Brown Deer Park, and the TPC Courses. You can easily book the Disney Courses through their corporate site the next time you head to Florida.
