Pinnacle Exception Golf Ball

August 30, 2006

PINNACLE Exception

PINNACLE Exception

Pinnacle golf balls to me have always been in the same category as Top Flite: hard and unresponsive balls that are not much fun to play.

But from everything I’ve been hearing from a friend of mine, the Pinnacle Exception is ... well ... the exception.

Produced by Acushnet (the Titleist people), the Pinnacle Exception is aimed squarely at the golf course pro shop—a market in which Pinnacle has a 17% share.

The Pinnacle Exception is a two piece ball, with a large soft-compression, high-velocity core. With a compression in the low 70s, it’s nearly 30 points softer than many competing two piece distance balls. The cover is a sodium/zinc blend with a dimple design that apparently is identical to that of several Titleist brands.  The ball is very low spin, so it should fly long and straight.

My friend is notoriously cheap ... he lost his last golf ball when the string broke .. so he really likes the price-performance ratio here.
