PGA Commish Praises Dubai Event
Last week the European Tour announced the creation of the Dubai World Championship which, with its $10 million purse, will the richest event in golf.
This week, in spite of his own FedEx Cup being eclipsed, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem
“I think it is terrific,” said Finchem. “It is terrific for professional golf globally; it is great for the European Tour and the players who play on the tour consistently. World-class athletes in our sport should be paid and compensated at the same level as team sports, and to see the work that the European Tour has done to bring this tournament on is a tremendous development.”
What else would you expect him to say? Anything else would be impolitic.
But you know what he wanted to say: “The Dubai Championship sucks and I’m going back to FedEx to get them to pony up more money so we can go back on top.”
