Odds To Win The 2011 Pebble Beach national Pro Am

February 8, 2011

I‘m not sure what a guy has to do to get the attention of the betting public. Mark Wilson has won two tournaments already this season and has a huge Fedex Cup lead, but he finds himself at 40/1 to win the Pebble Beach. I guess bettors figure lightning doesn’t strike twice. Still I wonder: is there any hotter player out there on Tour right now?

Still, the better’s favorite, Dustin Johnson, makes a lot of sense. He’s the defending Champion, and came within a mental error of winning the US Open there later that year. Phil Mickelson, who’s been playing well, but not winning, also is at 7/1 with Dustin Johnson.

The rest of the top ten are Nick Watney at 16/1, Geoff Ogilvy, Jim Furyk and Tim Clark at 20/1, Hunter Mahan at 25/1, and Brandt Snedeker, JB Holmes, Padraig Harrington and Vijay Singh at 33/1.

Based on last week’s showing, I wonder if we aren’t due for another Vijay Singh revival this year. Vijay has taken a bit of heat for finishing in the dark at the Phoenix Open, when he was in striking distance of the lead, but I understand how he felt. He had played a remarkable round, and staying in the moment probably was his best move. I can’t see that waiting until the next day to finish one hole was going to produce a better result.
