NXT Tour 2007

Titleist NXT Tour 2007

I’m more than a little behind on this one, but I just realized that Titleist has updated its NXT Tour ball for 2007. Titleist says that the new ball has a higher coverage 392 dimple design, and a staggered wave parting line (that, I suppose is to avoid any flight irregularities caused by a straight seam). The three-piece ball also has a new sidestamp that’s supposed to help with alignment on putting.

I was a fan of the original NXT, so I’m going to have to give these a try soon.

  • I just got a dozen of the new NXT Extreme, with the yellow/red packaging.  I am guessing that this is the same or slightly updated from last years plain NXT, which I like OK, but not as much as ProV1s, HX Hots, or MaxFli Fires.

The name “Extreme” and the red on the box makes me think that they are going after the Hot/Fire/Ignite consumers.  Why they couldn’t come up with a temperature/fire related name, I guess is probably at this point that would have been a little too obvious they were jumping on that bandwagon.  Perhaps though if the Extreme doesn’t penetrate some of that market, next year it could be the NXT Blaze.

  • I am personally tired of the whole “Extreme” thing, so the NXT Extreme name turned me off immediately. Somewhere along the line, some marketing genius came up with that idea that you can take an old idea, make it “extreme” and that then it’ll somehow appeal to the younger generation. So, we have extreme skiing, extreme soft drinks, extreme coffee, extreme sex and who knows what all. The problem is, of course, that once so many things become “extreme”, nothing is.

  • One nice side-benefit of the new NXT’s is that many retailers are discounting the old NXT’s to move them out.  Time to stock up?
