Norman Buys Controlling Interest In MacGregor

October 26, 2006

Australian newspaper The Age is reporting that Greg Norman has bought a 51% interest in the MacGregor golf club line.

That explains yesterday’s news that Adidas has sold the Greg Norman apparel line to Norman and MacGregor.

It’ll be interesting to see what he does with it. With a line of clubs and apparel, Norman’s just a box of balls short of being a full-line company like TaylorMade, Callaway and Nike (does Ping have a ball? I don’t think so). While MacGregor is a company that has been eclipsed in recent years, I have no doubt that the Shark’s business acumen could make it a major player once again.
