Nike Kids OS Distance Ball
Nike has it’s marketing paws firmly on the youth of America, so when my 10-year-old son saw these at a pro shop, he just had to have them. Turns out it’s not such a bad idea.
With a 60 compression, it’s slightly larger than a regular sized ball. It also has a more shallow dimple pattern to promote a higher flight.
The boy shot a 90 on nine holes at a local course that afternoon. He had a six on each of two par fours. Like a senior player, he doesn’t hit it far, but he’s always in the fairway. His sixes consisted of driver, 3 wood, 3 wood, iron, chip, putt. Much to his delight, I scored my usual bogey on those holes, so he was only one off the old man.
He likes the ball.

My 9 and 12 year olds have had good luck with that ball, they each got a box of them from their uncle for recent birthday gifts.
The balls drive straight, but it is probably more the shot than the ball itself. Both of my kids have ‘distance problems’ at that age, too, but I figure that if they hit is straight, they can pick up distance as they get stronger. My experience (with all 3 of my boys) is that they start picking up distance when they are around 14 or so, when they get stronger.
90 isn’t too bad for a 10 year old. We go to a local ‘executive course’ in town here, all par 3s and 2 par 4s, my 9 year old shoots in the 70’s, my 12 year old in the 60’s (par is 29). Get them on a 9 hole with par 5s and it is more painful, so 90’s on a good long course for your son is pretty good.
Then again, I am not, unfortunately, raising another ‘Tiger’...my sons inherited my genetics ont he golf front, which dooms them to 90’s for 18 for the remainder of their lives.
