Nearly 9000 Entries For US Open

The USGA has received 8,584 applications for this year’s US Open at Winged Foot. The record was the 9,048 received for last year’s US Open at Pinehurst.
The youngest applicant is 13-year-old Ryan Simpson of Mechanicsville, N.Y.; the oldest is 75-year-old Ordean Olson, a professional from Hollywood, Fla.
My dream is that one day, I’ll be good enought to apply. But to apply, you’ve got to have a handicap index of 1.4 or better.
I’ve got a way to go.
