More On Mickelson’s Mind Than Golf
Phil didn’t have a good showing at this weekend’s Farmers Insurance Open, but it turns out he had more on his mind. Media reports say that his ten year old daughter Sophia was undergoing tests relating to a seizure she had experienced the previous week. Phil said “I just wasn’t able to focus.”
No kidding. How could he?
Sophia returned to school Friday and Phil improved with a 68.

At this point in his career, I think that what Phil does in a normal TOUR stop is pretty irrelevant. In the last 8 majors, he has a win, a T2, a T4, and a T12, and has never missed the cut. I certainly don’t think that he’s close to being a “favorite” or “lock” at any major moving forward, but I do think that he continues to have the scoring talent of any other guy out there, if he has his game under control.
