Mickelson, Westwood Could Take Number One Spot

August 5, 2010

According to the PGA Tour, both Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood have a shot at taking the World Number One ranking. There are a few scenarios:

If Phil wins, he becomes the World Number One regardless of where Tiger finishes.

Westwood takes the spot if he wins, and Woods finishes lower than a two way tie for second.

Barring a win by either of those two, Mickelson could move to the top by finishing fourth or better, if Woods finishes 37th or worse, and Westwood finishes third or lower.

Westwood could also finish solo second and supplant Woods. But in that case, Mickelson can’t be the winner and Woods must be outside the top nine.

Its all very confusing.
