Maxfli Crossbax Driver

Maxfli Crossbax Men's Driver

Maxfli Crossbax Men’s Driver

I’m no longer sure where MaxFli fits into the grand scheme of things. Recently bought by Dick’s Sporting Goods from Taylormade, MaxFli now appears as thought it will be the house brand of Dick’s and Golf Galaxy—which is also owned by Dick’s. It also makes me wonder what’ll happen to Dick’s Walter Hagen house brand, and to the TaylorMade lines that were made exclusively for Dick’s Sporting Goods.

At any rate, the new MaxFli Crossbax Drivers have an interesting look. The pulled back crown and sole design is supposed to enhance moment of intertia (what else is new), and also move the center of gravity downward. All other things being equal, this’ll maximize launch angle while minimizing spin and shot deviation.

It’s an interesting looking design.

  • I’d say so. Certainly a strange look. Never seen the bottom contour go against the grain of the swing.

  • I was at Golf galaxy yesterday (9/26/08) demoing an Adams driver that was balloning on me as that’s my usual ball flight. The salesperson gave me another driver to hit, my ballflight came way down giving me more length than the adams driver. The funy thing is me and my brother were just talking a few minutes earlier about what a strange, ugly club the Maxfli Crossbax is. Go figure. It works for me and that’s what matters. i’m considering buying it. If you have a high ball flight, this club is worth a look if you can get past it’s appearance.

  • That’s good to know, Fran. My own tee shot has way too much “up” and not enough “out.” I’ll head out to Golf Galaxy and take a look.

  • I just picked this up at my local Dick’s on a very good sale. I’ve had trouble figuring out just what is up with Maxfli these days, but what I do know is that this is a quality club. I hit several dozen shots with several drivers in their cage, and without a doubt, this one produced the best result. I have a tendency to top or skull, and the weighting helped me keep down on it, without lofting me clear into the stratosphere. For being a forgiving club, I was also able to put it pretty well on the target, better than any other, anyhow.

I know there’s no “professional” reviews out there, so you might hesitate, but really, are you a professional? More likely you should go by how the other recreational players feel about it.

  • I bought this club at Dick’s today on clearance for a whopping $50!!  I saw the original price on the club and wa stunned at how much the price came down.  I began to wonder if the club was junk, but for $50 i couldn’t beat the deal.  I bought it without trying it out, I went straight to the range and hit the best bucket i have hit in a long time.  I reccomend it if you can find one.
