Iowa Court Sides With Man Injured By Golf Ball

January 15, 2006

An award given to a man seriously injured by a golf ball during a city sponsored tournament has been upheld by the Iowa Supreme Court. Richard Sunny was hit on the 18th fairway by a ball from the first tee.

Although the city argued that there is an inherent risk to golf, the Court decided that

the city could have taken steps to protect golfers from errant shots, like planting trees or shrubs to shield the fairway on 18 from sliced shots off the first tee.

Now that the lawyers ahve gotten ahold of this, the next thing you know, courses will be requiring helmets and visors.
