Huron Hills Proposal Calls For $3 Million Bond
It turns out that the Miles of Golf proposal for Huron Hills requires the City of Ann Arbor to float $3 million in bonds to pay for the facilities.
I can’t see this plan being approved in today’s economic climate.
In the bigger picture, I wonder what this says about the role of cash strapped cities in offering recreation to the citizens. In better times, recreation programs are nice. But when cities are forced to lay off police and firefighters, I don’t see how parks and recreation can be justified. On the other hand, if a city doesn’t offer “quality of life” amenities, they’ll lose population and tax dollars to cities that do. There’s no good solution to this one.
