I played a twilight round at Green Oaks in Ypsilanti, Michigan last night. You can see the winter damage on both the fairways and greens there. My suspicion is that courses in Michigan are going to be a long time recovering from the worst winter since 1880 – 1881.
The courses I have played so far in 2014 (Stonebridge, Eagle Crest, Hudson Mills, Huron Meadows and Pierce Lake) have all had a bit of damage but remain very playable. The most unsightly greens were Eagle Crest. The blemished turf did not affect play but it remains to be seen how the greens play as the season proceeds. Everywhere else was in pretty darn good shape.
Green Oaks took a real beating. Lots of trees down, and the greens as well as the fairways are blemished.
